Most writers and avid readers have something in common… we are extremely curious. I found Medium through a rabbit-hole search for an article about a favorite TV show from my childhood. After an hour of scrolling, I found the wit and sarcasm of the writers refreshing. People were sharing unique ideas and bizarre personal experiences. Imagine finding a social media format with writers sharing (mostly) well-thought opinions and dark senses of humor.
I had found my tribe.
I have enjoyed engaging with hundreds of writers over the years, but I never felt the urge to share my work. Having been labeled as the one who lounges on the shore of the beach and admires everyone else having fun, I was perfectly content. Since I have just recently started writing on Medium consistently, here are a few of my voyeuristic observations.
Niche for what … Niches are nice but test out several topics to find out what you are truly passionate about and what your audience responds to most. You can create a unique style by reading what is already available on a topic. Take time to find out what is truly oversaturated by searching your niche routinely.
Claps don’t equal success…. Engagement is critical but readers must be willing to share your articles to increase your reach. If you want to…
